Minced beef pie with mashed potatoes

In the diet of the ancient Egyptians there were pies made from oats, wheat, rye, barley. They were filled with honey and baked over coals. Then they were adopted by the Greeks, and it was they who first stuffed the, with meat. Today we have a version with beef covered by creamy mashed potatoes.

The eggs:

Preheat the oven to 180ºC, heat above and below.

Place eggs in a pot and cover with water (set aside one without boiling for later use). Bring to a boil and cook for 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.

The vegetables:

Cut pepper, carrot, and onion into brunoise (very small dice).
Peel and cut potatoes into cubes. 

The mashed potatoes:

Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with water.
Add a pinch of salt and boil until tender when pierced with a fork, approximately 12-15 minutes.
Drain and mash with a fork.
Add milk (gradually until desired consistency) and butter, and mix well. Season with salt and pepper.

The filling:

Heat a dash of oil in a frying pan.
Add onion, pepper, and carrot, and sauté until golden brown. Add minced beef, mix well, and cook until done. Turn off the heat.
Chop or grate the boiled egg. Add it to the frying pan and season with salt and pepper. 

The pie:

In an oven dish, place the filling at the bottom and cover with mashed potatoes.
Beat an egg and distribute it over the potatoe mash.
Finish by sprinkling brown sugar on top of the egg.
Bake in the oven for approximately 10 minutes until  golden.
